EVANS, GIEGER, HOUGH, MARTIN posted by Gerry A. Gieger on Sunday, August 22, 1999

Am looking for the burial site and cause of death for my gg- grandfather, James Samuel GIEGER, who was born in Covington County, MS on 27May1822. He was a Baptist preacher and the fourth child and third son of Jesse GIEGER and Tobitha MARTIN of Covington County. The Zachariah GIEGER Bible (http://www.websitewiz.com/genealogy/bibles/zgieger.htm) records his date of death as 23March1868. (Zachariah was Grandfather Samuel's oldest brother.) The site may be either MS or LA because his widow, gg-grandmother Louisa (HOUGH) GIEGER was living in Grant Parish, LA, with their five children when the 1870 US Census was taken. She married a Charles EVANS in Rapides Parish on 15July1871 but was widowed and living in Natchitoches when the 1880 US Census was taken. Will correspond with other researchers on these names.

HERRING family information needed. I am interested in locating information about the children of Stephen and Mary Susannah CARROLL HERRING who lived in Rapides Parish prior to the turn of the century. Mary had 3 children by her first husband, Louis WILKERSON, (I think they were Colombus, William "Billy" and Sudie Wilkerson} and several children by Stephen HERRING. The HERRING children included Sarah, who married William Calvin ARNOLD; Alice, Nellie, Clara, and Graves HERRING. Could any one supply data on their children.
