COWAN, OWENS, ROBERT, RUTLEDGE, RUTLEGE posted by Freida Scroggins on Tuesday, July 18, 2000

I am researching James RUTLEDGE and Ann OWENS parents of Joseph RUTLEDGE (born in Georgia on November 24, 1787) and Esther Susannah ROBERT (born in Beaufort District, SC on March 29, 1783).  Joseph and Esther RUTLEDGE were married in Woodville, MS.  They moved to Rapides Parish and died in Rapides Parish.  Their son Joseph Sadler RUTLEDGE enlisted in the Civil War from Rapides Parish and died at Shappsburg. During the war Joseph Sadler RUTLEDGE'S wife Nancy Catherine COWAN moved to Ouachita Parish near her brother John COWAN.  Joseph S. RUTLEGE and Nancy Catherine COWAN were married in Ouachita Parish on March 14, 1854. I would like to visit the gravesites of Joseph and Esther RUTLEDGE and find out where their homeplace was in Rapides Parish.  If you can find the graveyard they are buried in, it would save me some traveling and research time.  What library in Rapides has their land and cemetary records?

FEARS, WORTHAM posted by Sandra Wortham on Saturday, July 22, 2000

Robert J. WORTHAM, b. TN abt. 1835, and Addie M. FEARS, b. abt. 1846 (diff. census reports indicate TN, GA, & AL) reportedly married in Rapides Parish. Either they went to TX prior to the birth of 1st child Louise J. who was b. 1864 or perhaps she was from an earlier marriage of Robert's. The 2nd child Mary was born in LA '72 but they were in TX when the other children were born: Putnam, '74; Claud, '76; Geo. Thomas, '80; Lela Boyd (we feel this is probably a family name from a g.m. or something), '82; and Addie. This is the line I keep hitting my brick wall on. Many think Robert's father is Wm. Green Duke WORTHAM, but this Robert supposedly fell off the wagon and died on the way to TX so either that story is wrong or they aren't the same. Neither can we find anything at all on Addie's family. One family line reports they were both physicians & had a medical school and interestingly enough also say they at one time owned an international circus. I cannot document either at this point. Would someone have these folks in their line or in some way be able to share even a clue with me?
