Thomas B. WATERS I am searching for the ancestors of William H. WATERS b. 22 March 1856, d. 03 November 1920 Detroit, Red River, Texas.  I have a couple of funeral notices that indicate that the Waters family had a residence at Pine Woods home of Mrs. M. M. WATERS.  I have noticed on the Rapides Parish LAGenWeb the Waters Cemetery has been moved to the Rapides Cemetery.  I know that William H. WATERS is from Louisiana.  The two Funeral Notices that I have are dated 16 October 1865 for Laura J. PERKINS and 22 August 1874 for Mrs. M. E. LEDOUX.  Both state the interment will be at the old Family Burial Ground, seven miles from Alexandria.  I feel that both of these people are related to the Waters family. The information on the father of William H. WATERS that I have is as follows (the only Yankee in the family that I have found) : Thomas B. WATERS Loyal to the Union, he was assistant surgeon in the US Army, on duty in Post Hospital at Cape Girardeau, MO during 1862 and 1863. also stationed in Cairo, IL.  He left his property in LA. to serve with the US Army. Was the owner of a plantation in Rapides Parish, LA, known as "Stonewall" or landing" on Red River 16 miles below Alexandria, LA.  A petition or claim by William H. Waters to the US Congress on Dec. 4, 1905 was made for $56,000 for property taken by the US Army commanded by General Banks in 1864 from the plantation.  The claim was 273 bales of cotton $ 52,416.00 which was sold and paid to the US Treasury;  35 head of cattle $875.00; 17 head of mules $ 2,550.00; _ head of hogs $159.00.  A bill was approved by the 59th., March 31, 1906, Congress, H.R. 2,301, that directed the Court of Claims to pay the legal representative (William H. Waters) of Dr. Thomas B. Waters the sum of $56,000.00.  The Court of Claims awarded William H. Waters $1,224.00, his attorney $216.00. sources: (1)Original Petition "William H. Waters" V. The United States" Congressional, No 12,254 Filled April 17, 1906. (2)Letter to William W. METCALFE from Wright Patman, Congressman for the First District of Texas June 10, 1931.  Letter was written in response to inquiry about the claim. CLEVELAND, FLORES posted by Jo Ann Flores Hayes on Friday, September 4, 1998

I am searching for my aunt, Flecite (Flecy) FLORES. I found her on the 1910 census.  She was living in Rapides Parish in 1910, was 9 years old and was residing with the family of Ella CLEVELAND, as an orphan.  My father, Gregory FLORES is now deceased and was her brother and he did search for her until he died, in 1956.  I was told by my father, that when Flecy was around the age of 21 years, she boarded a train for New York, was pregnant and unmarried. I pray that someone out there can help me find her and/or her child.

ETHERIDGE, ETHRIDGE, GENTRY, HALLEY, HUNT, STEWART, WARREN posted by Nancy L. Kuehl on Monday, September 7, 1998

GENTRY, STEWART, HALLEY, ETHRIDGE (ETHERIDGE), HUNT families of Rapides Parish, LA.  My great grandmother Elizabeth L. Gentry (dau of Temperance and William J. Gentry) married James Claude Stewart in Rapides Par. 10 or 14 April 1890.  She was, at that time, the widow of J. H. WARREN.  My grandmother Mary Alice Stewart was born in 1891 (I presume in Rapides Parish) and later married John Albert Ethridge between 1914-17. They both died in 1917 and 1918, leaving my father, Vance Deville Ethridge (Etheridge?) in his grandmother's care.  Does anyone know anything about the Etheridge/Ethridge and the Deville families who lived in Rapides Parish between 1850 and 1950?  I would appreciate hearing from you.  Thanks.
