BULLARD, CASSON, FLINT, MASSENGILL, THOMAS posted by Melvin Ray Holt on Wednesday, October 18, 2000

My wife's gggranduncle was General Isaac THOMAS who came to Rapides Parish from Tennessee about 1820. He was married to Jane BULLARD the dau of Christopher Bullard of Franklin County, TN. He had two daughters one of whom was married first Ebenezer Hubbard FLINT and later Dr. John CASSON. He and Jane are buried in the Rapides Parish Cemetery in Pineville in the Casson plot. In the 1820 census there are two young boys in the household. Who were these boys? Were they the sons of his brother Ellis who evidently died young. Isaac was the son of Isaac Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth MASSENGILL Thomas of Sevierville, Sevier County, TN. I know he was one of the largest land owners in Rapides Parish before the Civil War and was also a practicing attorney. He ran for govener of LA in the 1830's. After his first wife died of Yellow Fever he married Emmeline Hubbard FLINT the sister of his son-in-law. He went to California in 1850, but was back in Rapides Parish at the time of his death.
